About the Man Booker Reading Project

Welcome! If you've arrived from my blog or others, I hope you've arrived with a mind towards reading some of the great Commonwealth literature of the past several decades.

The Man Booker Reading Project is not a challenge. There are no rules and no deadlines; no goals, no lists, and no requirements.

How to do...

The post below contains links to each year of the Man Booker Prize from 1969 to the present. The link will take you to a post which gives the longlist (when available), shortlist, and winner to each year. These posts can provide your "reading lists" for each year. In the posts with the yearly lists, each book links to its own page where you can find a link list to add your review from your blog or website. If you don't have a blog, feel free to leave your thoughts on the book in the comments.

Conversely, the tags for each year, found in the sidebar, will link to both the listing posts and the individual articles for each book. You can also search by author's name and the shortlisted, longlisted, and winning books from the same set of tags on the right toolbar. Please note that all book descriptions are taken from Powell's Books unless otherwise noted.

There are no requirements. You don't have to read every single book or one from each year (unless you want to). You don't even have to be actively reading the Booker list, but are welcome to link to your review (or comment on the book) if it just happens that you've read or reviewed it. Reviews also don't have to be from your current reading; feel free to link past posts if you've already read a book. The Man Booker Reading Project intends to be a place to find good books to read, and a place to let other people know what you think of these books.

Our film friends...

Being a film buff as well as an avid reader, I didn't want to exclude film lovers from the fun! Many Booker listed and winning novels have been adapted for film, including recent critical and cultural successes such as The Remains of the Day, The English Patient, and Schindler's List. There is a tag for "adapted for film" to see those novels which have gone on to the big screen, and if you've reviewed or viewed the film, please leave your link or comments the same as you would for a book. Please note that the "adapted for film" tag probably does not include every Booker novel that has been made into a movie, so please leave a comment if I've not placed the tag where it should be.

The Button...

There is none. If you'd like to design one for the project, please let me know!
